Sumalo PB charged for anomalous cash assistance distribution

A women’s group in Brgy. Sumalo, Hermosa lodged a complaint at the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) against Sumalo Punong Barangay Rolly Martinez for anomalous ECQ cash assistance distribution.

Based on a verified complaint of the Kababaihang Bisig ng Kaunlaran ng Sumalo (KABISIGKA-Sumalo) submitted to the municipal council, the group charged the barangay official with grave misconduct, abuse of authority, graft and corrupt practices act, and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of service. “We filed the complaint due to the unfair distribution of cash assistance by Capt. Martinez in our barangay”, said Alona Apable, president of KABISIGKA-Sumalo.

“Barangay kagawads and relatives and allies of Martinez were given cash assistance but not the more deserving persons with disabilities (PWDs) and seniors citizens in the village”, she lamented. The group cited a senior citizen and his wife, a PWD, both jobless, from Purok 1 who did not receive cash assistance.
Based on DILG guidelines, barangay officials are not allowed to receive Ayuda 1 and 2 cash assistance.
